Jelena Vuckovic

Jelena Vuckovic is a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Ginzton Laboratory at Stanford University, where she leads the Nanoscale and Quantum Photonics Lab. She received her PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in 2002, and M.Sc. and Diploma in Engineering degrees from Caltech and University of Nis, Serbia, respectively. Upon graduation from Caltech, she has held the following positions at Stanford University: a postdoctoral scholar (January-August 2002), an acting assistant professor (August-December 2002), an assistant professor (January 2003-August 2008), an associate professor of electrical engineering with tenure (September 2008- January 2013), and a professor of electrical engineering (since February 2013).

Vuckovic has received many awards including the Marko V. Jaric award for outstanding achievements in physics (2012), the Humboldt Prize (2010), the DARPA Young Faculty Award (2008), the Chambers Faculty Scholarship at Stanford (2008), the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE in 2007), the Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award (2006), the Okawa Foundation Research Grant (2006), and the Frederic E. Terman Fellowship at Stanford (2003).

Rastko Petrović

Rastko Petrović (Belgrade, 1898 – Washington, D.C., 1949), poet, novelist, travel writer, essayist, etnographer, giffted sketcher, camerman and photographer. He graduated law in France, and on his return to Yugoslavia he worked as an art and literary critic. After this he was employed in the diplomatic service and posted to Italy and the USA. He is considered to be one of the most important and most influential Serbian writers in the period between the two world wars.

Major works: The Burlesque of Lord Perun the God of Thunder (Burleska Gospodina Peruna Boga Groma, 1921, fiction), Revelation (Otkrovenje, 1922, poems), Africa (Afrika, 1930, travel book), People Talk (Ljudi govore, 1931, fiction), Day the Sixth (Dan šesti, 1961, novel).

Western American Diocese - Annual 2013

2013 marked several momentous occasions: 50 years of the founding of the Western American Diocese, 150 years of the birth of Archimandrite Sebastian Dabovich, Holy Apostle to the Americas, 1700 years of the Edict of Milan, and a special tribute to Nikola Tesla! Our main focus during this three-day Jubilee Celebration was on the freedom to pursue our faith since the time of Constantine 1700 years ago and how to better live a spiritual life.

As a special tribute, a beautiful commemorative edition of the Annual was prepared, which reflects the History of the Western American Diocese! It is adorned with beautiful photographs and historical articles from our parishes and monateries! It also showcases the wonderful work that has been done over the past year throughout our Diocese and information about our many ongoing ministries. This publicaton also includes a Directory of Parishes.
